Noah Cyrus Lifts the Weight From Her Shoulders With Fleet Foxes on ‘Don’t Put It All on Me’

“I have always been the observer in our family, and Braison wrote about how I tend to carry the weight of that on my shoulders,” the musician shared about her latest collaboration

Noah Cyrus is doing some reflection using her older brother’s point of view on her latest single, “Don’t Put It All on Me.” The record, which pairs the singer with Fleet Foxes, was written by Braison Cyrus as a portrait of her role in their family. “I have always been the observer in our family, and Braison wrote about how I tend to carry the weight of that on my shoulders,” Cyrus shared in a statement.

“Put It All on Me” arrives with an atmospheric music video directed by Luis Villanueva. When Cyrus appears one minute into the video, she’s lying among the moss and the trees of the forest as thick vines wrap around her. There are flashes of a white horse set against more darkness. When she gets to her feet, Cyrus breaks into a sprint. Soon enough, she and the stallion find each other.

“I want my music to offer fans a sense of comforting, peaceful nostalgia,” Cyrus said. “That’s something that I feel so heavily when I listen to music. We all want to connect with our past while also being aware of the present moment. Music does that for me, and this new collection of songs was made with that in mind. I want to evoke that feeling of a comforting friend that a song can be — and allow us all to heal.”

“Don’t Put It All on Me” marks the first release from Cyrus since sharing “Everybody Needs Someone,” featuring Vance Joy, in 2023. Her debut full-length LP, The Hardest Part, arrived in 2022. “The Hardest Part is the result of her stepping away and figuring out who she is — and the songs she wrote during that time sound appealing even as they’re digging into knotty, complex emotions,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the record.
