The highly controversial rapper hit out at the Governor of California and potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate over his support of trans kids after he spoke out for them in a recent appearance on The Ezra Klein Show.
On Wednesday (December 10), he said: “I want to see trans kids… There’s no governor that’s done more pro-trans legislation than I have. No one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBT community.”
Minaj then took to X/Twitter to write: “Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Haha. Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids. Not Gav. The Gav Nots. GavOUT. Send in the next guy, I’m bored.”
Newsom’s press office then shared a post that many have interpreted as a retort to the rapper. Sharing a post about California’s Megan’s Law, he wrote: “Know your neighbourhood and protect your community!”’

Last year, Meg appeared to make a barb at Minaj in her track ‘Hiss’, which referenced the law. Megan’s Law refers to the federal law in the US requiring public access to information about registered sexual offenders. Megan Thee Stallion made her own reference to Megan’s Law in ‘Hiss’: “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.”
Fans have suspected that the line is a jab at Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who was convicted of first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995. In 2022, Petty was given three years’ probation and one year of house detention after failing to register as a sex offender in California.
Newsom’s post follows Vice President JD Vance seemingly taking a side in the recently reignited Nicki Minaj and Cardi B feud.
Both Cardi and Nicki have had a long-running spat, which has recurrently flared up on social media over the past few years. Things came to a head in September 2018 when they got into a physical altercation at a Harper’s Bazaar event over alleged “lies” being spread by Minaj.
After supposedly reaching a truce the following month, it seems their beef has kicked off once again after the ‘Pink Friday’ rapper shared a series of posts on X/Twitter, mocking Cardi’s new album ‘Am I The Drama?’.
Later, in a post shared to X on Wednesday (December 10), politician JD Vance unexpectedly weighed in, making his feelings on their rivalry clear by simply sharing: “Nicki > Cardi.”
