New Iron Maiden documentary ‘Burning Ambition’ is coming to cinemas

A new documentary charting the five-decade career of Iron Maiden is coming to cinemas worldwide in May.

Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition is directed by Malcolm Venville and features the band members themselves –  as well as their co-manager Rod Smallwood and famous fans including actor Javier Bardem, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and Public Enemy frontman Chuck D.

It’s set for cinematic release on May 7. Tickets go on sale from March 18, and you can find them here.

An official synopsis of the documentary reads: “With unprecedented access to official band archives, Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition charts five decades of one of the most iconic journeys in music history. Featuring interviews with the band and contributors such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, and Chuck D, this electrifying film offers an intimate look at their uncompromising vision and unwavering connection with their global army of fans.”

Iron Maiden formed in East London in 1975, releasing their debut album five years later. Over the years, they’ve released a total of 17 studio albums – their most recent being 2021’s ‘Senjutsu’ – and performed almost 2,500 live shows worldwide.

The film comes as the band continue their ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour, which will include the unique EddFest celebration in Knebworth Park on July 11. The event’s name is taken from the band’s famous mascot, Eddie, and comes almost two decades after they headlined an earlier iteration of the festival in Bangalore, India.

The Darkness, The Hu, Airbourne and The Almighty are set to support, while the event will include the biggest Eddie’s Dive Bar ever, as well as Maiden-themed food and other specialised stalls. Proceedings will kick off on Friday 10 July for fans with camping tickets, and you can find any remaining tickets here.

Earlier this week, meanwhile, the metal legends were announced to headline the first day of Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, in September. They’ll be joined at the rock and metal festival by the likes of My Chemical Romance, Tool and Limp Bizkit.
