Natti Natasha isn’t taking for granted working alongside Romeo Santos for her latest album, Natti Natasha en Amargue, entirely produced and penned by the Aventura frontman.
“It’s a balance of hard work, giving the best of me and good luck,” the Dominican artist tells Billboard‘s Leila Cobo about how the opportunity came about.
Released in February, En Amargue is an all-bachata LP packed with songs about despecho — or the feeling of longing for another person. “In the Dominican Republic, when you are amargado, you are sad because you broke up with someone after many years, so you spend time just listening to bachata corta venas songs,” Natti says about the album’s concept.
It’s first time Santos has produced an album for another artist, but it’s not the first time he’s teamed up with Natti for a collab. The hitmaker jumped on the “La Mejor Versión de Mí – Remix” in 2019, and it was then the pair met for the first time. “I’ve been a mega fan of his and as years pass by, I still can’t believe when he’s standing in front of me. These things don’t happen every day,” she says. “You need a lot of faith and really good chemistry with that other artist you’re collaborating with. Romeo believed in me in that moment and it was a blessing.”
Natti goes on to speak candidly about wanting to wait for her husband, Raphy Pina, who is also her manager, to be released from his prison sentence to officially drop Natti Natasha en Amargue. “I wanted to wait until my family was complete. The plan was always to wait to release the album until he was back. He was part of the entire project and a piece of the puzzle was missing — we deserved to enjoy this moment together.”
