MTV will be temporarily bringing back round-the-clock music videos ahead of VMAs 2025

MTV will be temporarily bringing back 24/7 music videos ahead of the 2025 VMAs, which is set to take place on September 7 at the UBS Arena in Long Island.

The channel has announced that current and classic music videos will be airing nonstop on MTV2, MTV Live, MTV Classic, and their Pluto channel, MTV Biggest Pop, from September 1 up until the awards show takes place on September 7. However, the main MTV channel will not follow this format.

The lineup features more than 700 music videos, some of which have not been aired for more than a decade. Some of the categories include Best of the 1980s, Best Celebrity Cameos, Craziest Videos Of All Time, and Most VMA Victories.

MTV revealed the nine artists with the most featured videos to Billboard. They are: Mariah Carey, NSYNC, Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys, Michael Jackson, Eminem, Madonna, Beyoncé, and Britney Spears.

According to the outlet, the MTV channels also plan to air “interstitials” that celebrate music video fandom. This will feature celebrities and musicians, including Paris Hilton, Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, Teddy Swims and Jon Bon Jovi.

Here is a sample of Paris Hilton counting down her seven favourite music videos of all time.

This year’s VMA nominations are being led by Lady Gaga, who clocks in with 12 nods to her name. Her ‘Die With A Smile’ collaborator Bruno Mars comes in a close second with 11 nominations to his name, while Kendrick Lamar has 10. They are the only artists with double-digit nominations this year.

The coveted Video of the Year award is being contested between Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, Rosé & Bruno Mars, Sabrina Carpenter, and The Weeknd & Playboi Carti.

This year, the VMAs are introducing two new categories this year: Best Pop Artist and Best Country. Check out the full list of nominations here.

Taylor Swift dominated the 2024 MTV VMAs, taking home seven of the 10 awards she was up for, including Video of the Year for ‘Fortnight’, Song of the Summer, Best Pop, Best Collaboration and more. She also became the first-ever artist to win Video of the Year three years in a row.
