MTV announces the release of ‘Eric Clapton Unplugged… Over 30 Years Later’

MTV has announced a new feature-length Eric Clapton special, titled Eric Clapton Unplugged… Over 30 Years Later. Find all the details below.

Clapton’s episode of MTV Unplugged was filmed at Bray Studios in Windsor, Berkshire in 1992. He subsequently released a live album of the session, ‘Unplugged’, which sold over 26million copies. It would also go on to become the best-selling live album of all time.

An all-new extended, remixed and remastered edition of the iconic session, Eric Clapton Unplugged… Over 30 Years Later, will be available to stream globally on Paramount+ from next Wednesday (February 12).

It’ll include exclusive content of Clapton discussing the inspiration behind specific songs and performances with the crew just before he took the stage, seamlessly integrated with the performance footage.

During the intimate performance, Clapton reimagined his catalogue with first-time acoustic arrangements of hits such as ‘Layla’ and ‘Tears In Heaven’. The singer-songwriter also paid homage to the blues music that influenced him, playing classics like ‘Before You Accuse Me’ (originally recorded by Bo Diddley) and ‘Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out’ (by Bessie Smith).

The new 90-minute film premiered in select UK and US cinemas last month. You can watch the official trailer above.

Eric Clapton is due to head out on the road in the UK this May, in support of his 22nd and latest album ‘Meanwhile’. He’ll play three headline shows at the historic Royal Albert Hall in London, and perform at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.

The forthcoming dates are set to be Clapton’s only UK gigs of 2025. His stop in Nottingham will mark his first visit to the city since 2008.

In other news, a draft copy of John Lennon’s famous 1971 letter to Clapton suggesting they form a new band recently went to auction.

Last year, Clapton hit out at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame – despite him being a three-time inductee. “I think of it as a frat boys club that happened to lure [me] in,” he explained. “It’s not a place for rebels. It’s establishment stuff.”
