Motörhead are set to release their “lost” 1976 album ‘The Manticore Tapes’.
After 49 years, Motörhead have uncovered the collection of songs recorded from their first ever studio session. It sees the classic ‘Three Amigos’ line-up of Lemmy, ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke, and Phil Taylor and is called ‘The Manticore Tapes’. It is set to be released on June 27 – pre-order yours here.
The album’s title is taken from Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s legendary Manticore Studio in Fulham, where it was recorded. It was restored with the help of longtime Motörhead collaborator Cameron Webb at Maple Studios in California and mastered by Andrew Alekel at Bolskine House in Los Angeles.
‘The Manticore Tapes’ has now been recovered and restored to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary. 11 previously unheard recordings will be available as an LP and CD, featuring alternate takes, instrumentals and early recordings of songs from their self-titled debut album and their 1979 album ‘On Parole’.
A deluxe expanded book-pack will also include their live album ‘Blitzkrieg on Birmingham ’77’, and unheard live recordings from a set at Birmingham venue Barbarella’s in 1977.

In February, it was confirmed that plans to erect a statue of the late Motörhead frontman in the town where he was born have been approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Lemmy was born in Burslem, one of the towns that is part of the city of Stoke-On-Trent in Staffordshire. He and his family would then move to Newcastle-under-Lyme, and the majority of the singer’s childhood was spent in Wales before founding Motörhead in 1975.
If the plans to erect the statue are approved by the Stoke-on-Trent City Council, it will be placed in Burslem’s Market Place. The figure would be created by North Staffordshire sculptor Andy Edwards – the same artist who created the world-famous Beatles statue on Liverpool’s waterfront.
In other news, Motörhead’s Mikkey Dee almost died from sepsis and was nearly “playing drums with Lemmy in heaven”.
