Mötley Crüe Cancel Boardwalk Rock Festival Appearance Over Health Concerns

Mötley Crüe have been forced to cancel an upcoming festival appearance as frontman Vince Neil continues to recover from an undisclosed medical procedure.

The Hollywood rock veterans announced on Thursday (April 3) that they would no longer be performing at the Boardwalk Rock festival in Ocean City, MD on May 17 as previously planned. The two-day festival had initially featured Mötley Crüe co-headlining the opening night with Def Leppard, while it would close with Nickelback and Shinedown the following day.

In a statement, the group explained they would be unable to appear due to Neil’s need to continue “recuperating after a required medical procedure recently advised by his doctors.”

“Vince’s health comes first, and we fully support him in prioritizing his recovery,” they wrote. “Please join us in wishing him well.

“We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the show and appreciate your understanding,” the statement continued. “Our friends Alice in Chains are confirmed to take our place on May 17 and we are immensely grateful to them for stepping up and bringing their awesome show to Boardwalk Rock. Thank you to all the Crüeheads for your continued support. We can’t wait for Vince to fully recuperate and to be back on stage again soon.”

News of Mötley Crüe’s festival cancellation comes at a time when the band were initially scheduled to be performing as part of a Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. In early March, the band announced that the run of dates – which were originally scheduled to run for 11 shows from March 28 through April 19 – would now be taking place throughout September and early October instead. Neil’s health was also cited as the reason for this rescheduling.

“To all the Crüeheads who were looking forward to see us this Spring, I’m truly sorry,” Neil wrote in a statement. “My health is my top priority so I can bring you the awesome shows you deserve, and I can’t wait to return to the stage. Thank you for all the well wishes that keep reaching me. Your support means more than you know.”

Though Neil has not provided any insight as to what his recent medical procedure was, Mötley Crüe’s current touring schedule is empty save for their rescheduled Las Vegas dates, indicating that no further cancellations will be occurring in the near future to aid in his recuperation.
