Morrissey’s Dallas Concert Cut Short After Fans Invade the Stage

One security guard apparently injures leg after a handful of overeager fans rush toward the singer during the encore

Morrissey’s concert in Dallas was cut short Saturday after the stage was invaded by overeager fans attempting to embrace the singer, with a security guard apparently injured during the chaos.

Video from the Music Hall at Fair Park concert shows that, during the encore performance of “First of the Gang to Die,” the stage was bombarded by fans who tried to get close to the singer, an occurrence that is reportedly common at Morrissey’s shows. However, after two fans managed to hug and shake hands with him, the stage was overrun by more fans, leaving security scrambling to clear the stage as Morrissey was jostled between the admirers and personnel.

One song into the encore, Morrissey was ultimately ushered off the stage, with one security guard noticeably seen limping from a leg injury after attempting to remove a fan. The crowd then booed the abrupt end to the concert, which concluded a song or two before schedule according to Morrissey’s recent setlists.

“Stage invasions are very common at Morrissey gigs but this one looked particularly messy. It’s not clear if it was Morrissey’s choice to leave the stage or if he was directed by the crew but the fans did seem to go a bit far,” George Allen, the host of a Morrissey podcast, told the Manchester Evening News after the incident.

“Getting on stage for a handshake and a hug is fine but considering one of the crew was injured this felt like too much. Some fans have described it as disrespectful.”

The singer has not yet commented on the incident via his Morrissey Central dispatches.
