Miley Cyrus has teamed up with Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham on her new single ‘Secrets’. Listen below.
The collaborative song appears on the deluxe edition of the pop star’s ninth and latest album, ‘Something Beautiful’, alongside a 13-minute closing number featuring David Byrne, ‘Lockdown’.
Cyrus has dedicated the sparkly, soft rock-influenced ‘Secrets’ to her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
“This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved. In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same,” Cyrus explained.
“Thank you to Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood for bringing magic to the music. This song is for my dad.”
“Secrets, I wanna keep your secrets/ Like sunlight in the shadows/ Like footsteps in the grass,” Cyrus sings over a Fleetwood Mac-esque instrumental provided by the band’s former members.
She goes on to seemingly reference a classic Christine McVie-penned song by the iconic group, singing: “I won’t ever break my promise/Like a songbird in the silence/ Like stones against the glass.” Cyrus adds: “We’re chained to the rhythm.”
Later, the singer states that she wants to “be the one” and will go “anywhere you run” as some airy, ’80s Stevie Nicks-style backing vocals repeat the lines back. Buckingham also delivers one of his signature yet understated guitar solos towards the end of the single.
Billy Ray shared a snippet of his daughter’s new track last month, writing: “For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called ‘Secrets’ and got my favourite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it! I love you Mile ❤️.”
Last year, Cyrus addressed rumours of estrangement from her father while discussing her family dynamic. At the start of 2025, Miley’s brother Trace said he and his family were “genuinely worried” about Billy Ray: “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew and hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy, Dad and everyone is noticing it.”
In 2020, Cyrus joined forces with Stevie Nicks on the single ‘Edge Of Midnight (Midnight Sky Remix)’, which mashed up the former’s ‘Midnight Sky’ with the latter’s seminal solo track ‘Edge Of Seventeen’.
Fleetwood and Buckingham were pictured together in the studio in March. Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, and replaced by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell and Crowded House’s Neil Finn.
Nicks has said that “there is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together” without the late McVie, after Buckingham revealed that he would rejoin the band “in a heartbeat”.
NME gave the original edition of ‘Something Beautiful’ a four-star review when it was released in May: “So while ‘Something Beautiful’ probably isn’t Cyrus’s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement. This post-genre pop star has pulled off another pretty big swing.”
Cyrus also released an accompanying live film of the same name, instead of touring. Over the summer, the artist opened up about how she still doesn’t want to hit the road: “I do have the physical ability and I have the opportunities to tour. I wish I had the desire, but I don’t.”
