Miley Cyrus says “her soul aches” for those affected by the LA wildfires

Miley Cyrus has expressed her sadness for those who have been affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.

The pop singer, who lost her Malibu home in 2018 in the Woolsey fire, took to the Miley Cyrus Foundation Instagram account to share a photo of what remained of her home at the time.

“This image hits me hard in the heart today. This is a photo taken of my front porch in 2018 after losing our house in the Woolsey fires. It’s a feeling you don’t ever forget,” she wrote in the caption. “Walking up to the door you would pass through daily, looking forward to being greeted by the ones you love like you always do but instead being met by a pile of ash and rubble.”

She continued: “My soul aches for those who are experiencing this devastation firsthand and I cry for my city. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents “living the dream” but the reality today is wreckage and destruction.”

Cyrus also shared links to a few organisations that are helping fight the fires and support survivors, including the Malibu Foundation, which she helped launch in 2018.

Many other stars have also been affected by the wildfires, with Paris Hilton recently opening up about watching her home burn down on television, while James Woods, Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes and Mark Hamill are among the other high-profile names to have been badly affected.

Heroes actor Milo Ventimiglia choked up during a live interview while discussing watching his own house burn down, while a fundraiser for DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith was launched after his house succumbed to the fires. Mel Gibson‘s house was another one to be destroyed, with the actor revealing that it burned down while he was recording his appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Many music recording spaces have also been destroyed by the fires, including Bob Clearmountain’s legendary Mix This! recording studio in Pacific Palisades.

A benefit concert for the victims has been since announced. Dubbed FireAid, it will take place at LA’s Intuit Dome on January 30, with proceeds going to the rebuild program and to displaced families. No line-up has currently been announced.

Elsewhere, Charli XCX urged brands who send her clothing to instead donate it to those affected by the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires.
