Miley Cyrus responds to backlash after accusations of “ignoring” fans

Miley Cyrus has responded to backlash after viral footage led to accusations of her and Naomi Campbell “ignoring” the fans who showed up to her London signing event.

The event in question took place this weekend (Saturday June 21), when the pop star headed to London’s Rough Trade to celebrate her single ‘Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved’.

The song is taken from her latest record, ‘Something Beautiful’, and features a guest appearance from supermodel Naomi Campbell – who also joined her at the London event to sign vinyl copies of the track.

Following the signing, some fans took to social media to hit out at the two of them and accuse them of being too busy talking to one another to interact with those who travelled to see them.

Now, Cyrus and Campbell have responded to criticism, with Cyrus addressing the event in an Instagram post shared yesterday (June 25), where she thanked all the guests for attending.

“I saw so many familiar faces & met some sweet new ones,” she wrote. “The record store requested no photos due to the unexpected last minute turn out but we knew the night needed to be captured… To everyone who came out to celebrate our single, we love you.”

Meanwhile, Campbell shared her own post, seeming to defend Cyrus from any criticism. “Thank you for having me by your side to celebrate the Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved vinyl release in London,” she wrote, sharing a series of photos and clips from the event. “What a joy to spend the night with you in my hometown – your energy is infectious, your memory and graciousness is unreal with our fans, you had me laughing all night.

“To everyone who came out to the signing: thank you. We felt your love and adored meeting you,” she continued.

In NME’s four-star review of ‘Something Beautiful’, Nick Levine wrote: “Featuring 13 tracks that unfurl over 53 minutes, ‘Something Beautiful’ is sprawling and apparently unperturbed by contemporary chart trends.

“It’s difficult to think of a Spotify playlist that might accommodate ‘Reborn’, which sounds a bit like an Andrew Lloyd Webber show tune written on mild hallucinogens. So while ‘Something Beautiful’ probably isn’t Cyrus’s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement. This post-genre pop star has pulled off another pretty big swing.”

At a recent screening of the accompanying film, Cyrus was heckled by fans who were expecting a concert, with social media clips showing one proclaiming: “We thought this was a concert! We paid $800!”

NME gave the film a three-star review, which read: “Watching the project as a whole is a bit like arriving at pre-drinks to find that someone has queued up 11 slightly same-y Miley Cyrus tracks in a row. Hardcore fans will be entranced; more casual admirers might want to wait until they all end up on YouTube.”
