On Sunday night (August 11), the 31-year old Cyrus was inducted as a Disney Legend, the company’s Hall Of Fame programme. During the induction ceremony at the D23 expo, Cyrus was seen wiping away tears before commencing her acceptance speech after Lainey Wilson performed a rendition of the Hannah Montana theme song ‘Best Of Both Worlds’.

Cyrus began: “I’m gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know. And what I want to say, is that legends get scared, too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day. It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try. That’s the only way you lose.”

Later on, Cyrus continued, referencing the hit Disney series Hannah Montana: “In 2005, Disney was on a mission to rebuild the company. That’s why they hired Bob Iger, and me.”

“I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana,” Cyrus added. “This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself: ‘This is the life.’”

Other inductees as Disney Legends this year Angela Bassett, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, legendary Marvel comic artist Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa and John Williams among others.

In a four-star review of Cyrus’ 2023 album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, Nick Levine wrote for NME: “It all adds up to an album that holds your full attention even if it isn’t Cyrus’s boldest or most visionary. ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ certainly feels like an accurate reflection of who she is as an artist – and a person – in 2023. She’s still working out what she wants from a relationship. She knows she can pull off different musical styles even when she’s not trying to make bangers (or ‘Bangerz’). And when she sings ‘But don’t forget, baby I’m a wildcard‘ on the third-to-last song, you’ll definitely believe her.”
