The milestone is commemorated with a playlist on the streaming platform of every member of the ‘Billions Club’, with 1986’s ‘Master Of Puppets’ joining ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters’ on the list.

“We’re psyched to share that ‘Master of Puppets’ has just made its way into @Spotify’s Billions Club – Thank you!” the band wrote on X on Thursday (April 3). “Send it on its way to two billion.”

Other recent additions to the Billions Club include Alicia Keys’ ‘No One’, Arctic Monkeys’ ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’, Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ and Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’.

Elsewhere, guitarist Kirk Hammett recently revealed he is working on his first solo album, which he said will be “a fusion of all sorts of styles”. He has also just released a new coffee table book The Collection: Kirk Hammett, in which he explores his extensive guitar collection and reflects on his life in music.

Meanwhile, Hammett recently said he has already written 767 riffs for the next Metallica album, although he added that he does not foresee the band working on it “for at least another year”.

He discussed the potential sound of the new record. “Who knows? We might just say, ‘OK, let’s go back to the Nineties again’. It’s not a bad idea!” he said. “We haven’t said that to each other yet. And it’s interesting because when ‘Load and ‘Reload came out, there was a lot of backlash. But nowadays I run into fans and they love that era.”

In other news, Metallica have announced details of an “immersive” new VR film concert, which they have worked on with Apple Vision Pro, and they are also on the stacked line-up for the final ever Black Sabbath show in Villa Park in Birmingham in July.
