Metallica release first trailer for new fan documentary ‘Metallica Saved My Life’

Metallica have released the first trailer for their new documentary Metallica Saved My Life – you can watch it below.

The forthcoming film is set to be screened in cities on the North American leg of the band’s ‘M72’ world tour. An official synopsis describes the project as “not-quite-finished”, and that it “explores the world of Metallica through the lives of their fans”.

The clip features testimonials from various fans talking about what the metal pioneers mean to them, from a survivor of a civil war calling the group as “the soundtrack to my life”, to the Metallica subculture in Botswana, whose members describe their sound as giving them a “lion heart”.

The affectionate trailer is punctuated with comments from the band, with drummer Lars Ulrich saying: “Metallica is all of us together, it belongs to all of us.”

The film is directed by Jonas Åkerlund, a legendary music video director who first worked with the band on the promo for their 1999 version of the traditional Irish song ‘Whiskey In The Jar’. He also directed the videos for ‘Telephone’ by Lady Gaga feat. Beyoncé, as well as ‘Ray Of Light’ by Madonna.

The band shared the video on their official Instagram account with the following caption:
“Catch a sneak peek of our upcoming movie, coming soon to #M72 World Tour cities. Not quite finished yet, we want YOU to be among the first to see our latest film project by award-winning director Jonas Åkerlund, all about the lifeblood of this band: the fans.

“This documentary explores our world through the lives of fans who have supported each other through highs, lows, trials and triumphs for over four decades.”

Tickets for screenings are available here.
