Mel B says Spice Girls reunion tour is “not happening”, addresses documentary rumours

Mel B has put long swirling rumours of a Spice Girls reunion tour to rest in a new interview.

The singer, also known as Scary Spice, nodded to the group’s upcoming 30th anniversary in a discussion with Hello!, and dashed hopes of a comeback tour. With the milestone imminent, fans have been clambering to see them come back together in some capacity, either for a global trek or a documentary.

She was insistent that a full tour would not be happening, but did address rumours that the group were set to be the subject of a Netflix documentary, similar to the recently released Take That mini-series.

“I can tell you it’s not happening,” she said of a reunion tour. “If it does, it’ll be a shock to me, let’s put it that way,” and went on to explain: “You can’t be nagging everyone to go on tour if they don’t want to. I laid that to rest when I turned 50.”

She also said that despite all five members “thinking about” coming together for a documentary charting their rise in the ’90s, it doesn’t appear to be on the cards either.

“I think we’ve all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point,” she said. “But it has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest.”

It seems at odds with what she told Page Six last month, when she addressed the ongoing rumours of a reunion and said she wished they were “already on tour” at this point.

She has been outspoken about her eagerness to return in the past, and said in May last year that she was “always game” when it came to hitting the road with Victoria Beckham, Mel C, Geri Halliwell-Horner and Emma Bunton again.

Doubling down on her stance in the latest interview, the singer said that she would love to share the news of a comeback, but revealed that it is unlikely to come anytime soon.

The comments build on what Mel C – Sporty Spice – said last week, when she shared that there will be no Spice Girls 30th reunion tour this year, despite the group “want[ing] to do something”.

“We want to do something. Who knows when, but I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future,” she said on Australian radio show The Smallzy Show.

The last time all five members performed together publicly was at the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012, while the group also gave a surprise performance of ‘Stop’ at Posh’s 50th birthday party in 2024.

The group have previously embarked on a reunion tour in 2019 – however, that line-up did not include Beckham.

There have been numerous instances of the group building up hopes of a reunion, as well as many times where they have put a dampener on the prospect.

Last year, for example, Mel C said she was “optimistic” that the iconic girl group would reunite while promoting her ninth studio album ‘Sweat‘, and Victoria Beckham also suggested her “tempting” desire to do a Spice Girls stadium tour after attending Oasis’ mighty comeback tour with husband David.

Last spring, Halliwell-Horner also teased that “there will be something” with Beckham in the fold in the future. “My hope is we come back together as a collective. It’s more respectful to come as one,” she said, also revealing that all five members shared a group chat.

While nothing has been confirmed of a comeback yet, there was something done to celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary milestone earlier this month, when The Royal Mint launched an official commemorative coin in honour of the group.
