Max B Returns to Stage at Brandy and Monica’s NYC Show, Days After Prison Release

Harlem rapper Max B wasted no time getting back onstage after being released from prison earlier this month. On Thursday night, the Wave God joined Brandy and Monica‘s New York City show to perform his 2008 classic “Sexy Love” as a surprise for fans at Barclays Center.

“Welcome home, my brother,” Monica said, before Max engaged the crowd: “New York, stand up! He’s baaaaack. Where my ladies at, Barclays?” Max then walked around the stage and danced with Monica before starting to rap along to “Sexy Love.”

According to Billboard, Monica and Brandy also brought out Fabolous, Fat Joe, Ciara for “Level Up,” and Tyrese for “Sweet Lady” as special guests during Thursday’s show.

Max B was released from prison on Nov. 9 after serving 16 years for his role in a botched armed robbery that resulted in a man’s death.“I’m feeling righteous, man,” Max told The Joe Budden Podcast earlier this year. “I’m doing all right. This is almost over.… Wavy Baby coming home real soon.”

In 2009, Max B was originally sentenced to 75 years in prison, accused of being an accomplice to a robbery in New Jersey that ended in murder. The conviction was vacated in 2016, after a new legal team argued that Max’s original trial lawyer had a conflict of interest in the case. His sentence was reduced to 20 years.

Max B is set to drop his The First Purge (Patient Zero) project next Friday. Even from behind bars, he released several projects over the years, including “Hold On” with French Montana in 2019. He also released an album called Negro Spirituals in 2021.
