Matthew Perry attended AA meetings at Ozzy Osbourne’s house: “The funniest, most talented bloke”

Ozzy Osbourne’s memoir has revealed that the late Matthew Perry attended AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings at his house.

The actor, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom Friends, was found unresponsive in a hot tub in his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. His death at the age of 54 was attributed to the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning and coronary artery disease listed as other factors.

In August of this year, Jasveen Sangha – the so-called ‘Ketamine Queen’, who was charged with supplying the dose of the drug that killed Matthew Perry – agreed to plead guilty to one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, three counts of distribution of ketamine, and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury. She could face up to 45 years in prison.

Osbourne, who passed away on July 22 at the age of 76, had his posthumous memoir Last Rites published this week (October 7). In an extract syndicated by US Weekly, he recalled his memories of Perry. “He used to come to our house for AA meetings, or so my wife tells me,” he wrote. “The funniest, most talented bloke. And he was trying so hard to stay on the right path.”

He continued: “Then one day he listened to his addiction telling him it was OK to get loaded, and that was it — game over. I felt so sad when they said he’d been found in his hot tub, unresponsive, with ketamine in his system. He’d given everything he had to stay clean. But it wasn’t enough.”

Elsewhere in the book, the metal legend discussed the heart issues that would eventually contribute to his death. Ozzy’s son, Jack Osbourne, would also discuss how the final Black Sabbath show, held just 17 days before his passing, became a “living wake” for his father.
