“All I Want for Christmas Is You” will preface the football action on Dec. 25
Mariah Carey may have just canceled her Wednesday night Pittsburgh show because of a case of the flu, but the holiday diva will appear on Christmas Day ahead of Netflix’s NFL game.
Carey is slated to perform a (pre-recorded) rendition of her yuletide signature “All I Want for Christmas Is You” before the streaming network’s broadcast of two pro-football games, a 1 p.m. ET matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and a 4:30 p.m. ET battle between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” appears on Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas. The pop vocalist has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of the record on her current Christmas Time Tour. The run wraps up with a pair of shows in New York, Dec. 15 at the UBS Arena in Belmont and Dec. 17 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Netflix is pulling out all the stops for its inaugural NFL doubleheader, booking Beyoncé to perform at halftime of the Ravens-Texans game in the singer’s native Houston. Unlike Carey’s performance, Beyoncé’s is slated to be live on the field at NRG Stadium.
In a teaser trailer for her performance, Beyoncé was shown decorating a cactus with ornaments as snow fell all around her. A Cowboy Carter Christmas is how she referred to it in the caption of her post.
