The ‘We Belong Together’ singer has been teasing the track since earlier this week, and has now officially unveiled the song on streaming platforms accompanied by a lyric video.
Co-produced by Carey alongside N.W.I. and Daniel Moore, ‘Type Dangerous’ samples the Eric B. and Rakim classic ‘Eric B. Is President’ from 1987. Throughout the percussion-driven track, she sings of attracting men who aren’t what they seem.
“Motorcycle man had a yen for me / Liked to rush through the tunnel at a breakneck speed / Computer boy toy, he was fun for a while / ‘Til I caught him on the web hacking other girls’ files / You know the guy say he worked construction / Turns out he was movin’ them pounds through customs,” she sings.
The lyric video features clips of Mariah Carey walking out of a mansion and into a fancy car. Check it out below.
‘Type Dangerous’ marks Mariah Carey’s first solo single since 2019’s standalone song ‘In The Mix’, and serves as the first teaser for her upcoming 16th studio album, which has yet to be announced.
She said in a press statement (per Pitchfork): “I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous’!”
This summer, Mariah Carey will play a huge show at the Royal Sandringham Estate in Norfolk alongside Eternal and Nile Rodgers & Chic. It goes down on August 15, and you can find any remaining tickets here.
In February, she was nominated for the Class Of 2025 Hall Of Fame, but was snubbed alongside Oasis, Phish, Joy Division/New Order and more when the inductees were confirmed in April.
Mariah Carey’s last album was 2018’s ‘Caution’. Since then, she’s released the standalone single ‘In The Mix’, and has collaborated with the likes of Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson, Busta Rhymes and more.
