Mariah Carey responds to Eminem feud and ‘8-Mile’ casting rumours

Mariah Carey has responded to rumours that her feud with Eminem started when the rapper suggested she should be cast as his mother for 8-Mile.

Recently, Damion ‘Damizza’ Young – a producer who has worked with Carey – shared the Detroit rapper wanted the singer to play his mother – despite only being four years older than him.

“She did not like that shit at all,” Young explained. “Her insecurities kicked in big time.” The incident would supposedly ignite the long-running feud between the two artists.

Now, in an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Carey has confirmed that Eminem did ask her to play his mother. “From what I heard, there is truth to that, but I don’t think that he actually… Well, who knows who approached who,” she told Cohen.

But when asked whether Eminem’s request started their feud, Carey responded: “No. Maybe. It depends what he’s thinking. I really don’t care. Whatever he’s said then I’m that, fine. Not really, but that’s a rap lyric”.

Eminem and Carey’s feud has endured for over two decades, with Eminem once claiming the pair dated for seven months.

Carey denied the claims, and would go on to write her song ‘Obsessed’ about him in June 2009 – but later poke fun at the feud by imitating the rapper in a TikTok celebrating the song’s anniversary.

Eminem would fire back with graphic lyrics about their supposed relationship later that July in diss track to Carey, rapping: “Enough dirt on you to murder you/ This is what the fuck I do/ Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures?”

Carey’s ex-husband Nick Cannon would also trade insults with Eminem. In December 2019, he would release four diss tracks against Em in the span of a few days – claiming that the rapper let his chauffeur perform oral sex on him on ‘The Invitation’.

Cannon would respond to claims that he was being homophobic on ‘Invitation’ diss by reasoning: “I was like, ‘I’m not scared of him sucking dick. There’s nothing scary about it, if that’s what you like.’ I was like, ‘Bring all your boyfriends to the show. Come to the show muthafucka.’”

Elsewhere, we reviewed Carey’s new album ‘Here For It All’ in a four-star review: “For someone who’s had the ability to stop caring about making music long ago, Mimi remains committed to the craft that she’s had so much influence over, and we, too, are staying here for it all.”
