Maren Morris Looks for a Light in the Dark After the Election With New Song Snippet: Listen

After the 2024 presidential race was called for Donald Trump on Wednesday (Nov. 6), plenty of people flocked to social media looking for catharsis. One such person was singer-songwriter Maren Morris, who decided to give those people something to listen to.

In a post to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday night, the “Push Me Over” singer shared a snippet of an unreleased song, telling her fans that she “felt like sharing on this day.” Accompanied only by a piano, Morris’ voice rings out in the clip as she sings about searching for a silver lining in dark times.

“Feels like the worst year’s always the one you’re in/ Haven’t heard a ‘hallelujah,’ but I ain’t been listenin’,” she croons in the clip. “I’ve looked every direction for a good way to climb out/ Maybe my reflection’s the only one who can help me now/ Little change of weather, it’ll make it better/ When it finally does, it’ll feel like water in the desert.”

Morris joined a growing group of artists in expressing her dismay at Trump’s re-election on Wednesday. Billie Eilish called the election results “a war on women,” while Cardi B insisted that “I hate y’all bad” after she found out Trump won. Ethel Cain, meanwhile, sent a message to Trump’s supporters, telling them that “I hope that peace never finds you … I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person.”

Morris was a vocal supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign for office, even performing her protest anthem “Better Than We Found It” from the stage of the Democratic National Convention in August. Just one week before the election, the singer-songwriter shared a fired-up funk track titled “People Still Show Up,” celebrating the power community and using it as a soundtrack on social media to encourage her fans to get out the vote.
