Madonna says she has the football shirt that Celta Vigo F.C. are looking for

Madonna has got in touch with a Spanish football team searching for one of their shirts, and revealed that she has it in her archives.

The shirt in question is the blue-and-white Celta Vigo jersey that the pop icon wore during a concert at the Balaidos Stadium back in 1990.

Marián Mouriño Terrazo, president of the club, recently shared an open letter asking if anyone knew where the shirt was now, and asked Madonna if she could help them track it down.

“Over time we came to better understand what you stood for back then: questioning established norms and standing up to those who try to tell you what you can or cannot do,” he wrote, reflecting on her performance held over three decades ago. “At our club we recognise ourselves in this line of thought. That is why we hold on to the hope of finding the garment you once wore.”

“Do you have it? If you know where it may be, or if you would like to join us in the search to retrieve it, please contact us via private message,” Terrazo added.

The club then made a similar post on X/Twitter, tagging the ‘Vogue’ icon and saying that they wanted to track down the shirt as it represented “the authenticity and passion of your music, with the heart and tradition of ours”.

It was posted alongside footage of a live performance of her hit song ‘Like A Prayer’, which was performed at Balaidos Stadium last week by a women’s choir before a match against Celta and Real Madrid.

On Saturday (March 7), Madonna replied to the team’s post, and revealed that she still owns the strip.

“This shirt is hanging in my archives,” she wrote, also adding that she was “wearing [it] and representing your team in spirit!”

Madonna is expected to release new music later this year – confirming in September that she had returned to Warner Records and was gearing up to drop a new dance album called ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor Part 2’.

The return to Warner came nearly 20 years after the singer first parted ways with the label, having been signed with them for the first 25 years of her career.

A second part to her 2005 ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’ album was first hinted at by Madonna in early 2025, when she said that she was working on it as a “Valentine’s day gift” for fans.

No official release date has been set yet, although it is expected to arrive later in 2026 and will see her reunite with the producer of the original ‘Confessions…’ album, Stuart Price. It has been listed as one of NME’s most anticipated albums of the year.

There is a biopic about the singer on the way too, and while no release date has been shared yet, it has been confirmed that Julia Garner will be taking on the lead role, and Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy will be involved.
