Madi Diaz Will End Trio of Heartache Albums With ‘Fatal Optimist’

On her new album Fatal Optimist, Madi Diaz reminds herself that the only person who will never leave her is herself. On Monday, the musician announced her album, Fatal Optimist, out on October 10, which she views as the final installment in a trilogy of heartache albums, following 2021’s History of a Feeling and 2024’s Weird Faith. She also dropped single “Feel Something” and announced a tour.

“Fatal Optimism is the innate hope for something magical. It’s the weird faith that kicks in while knowing that there is just plain risk that comes with wanting someone or something,” Diaz explained of the LP in a press release. “It’s when you have no control over the outcome, but still choose to experience every moment that happens, and put your whole heart in it.”

Diaz worked on the album from a New Jersey studio and channeled the sound of isolation, according to a press release. She then went to SoCal to work with Gabe Wax at Infinite Family Studio to finalize the record. “This was the first time in my career that I stayed in this heavy place with the songs after leaving the studio rather than trying to escape it,” she said.

The album features 11 tracks, including songs titled “Heavy Metal,” “Flirting,” “Time Difference,” and “Feel Something,” which she describes as being “about the deep yearning and desire to connect.” (She also dropped that song Monday as the LP’s lead single.)

“It’s the moment when you’re trying to call in the love that was lost,” she said. “It’s the first single off the album because it has the sense of urgency and panic that I felt at that first moment I noticed I was alone in my relationship.”

With the album announcement, the singer also shared dates for her upcoming tour, which will take place in October and November. Tickets for the tour are set to go on sale on July 25 at 10 a.m. local time.
