Lucy Dacus Drops Double Singles ‘Bus Back to Richmond’ and ‘More Than Friends’

The dual release marks her first since sharing Forever Is a Feeling in March

Earlier this year, Lucy Dacus returned with her fourth studio album, Forever Is a Feeling. After letting the record breathe for a few months, the singer-songwriter is back with confirmation that she’s still feeling forever quite deeply. Dacus has shared the dual singles “Bus Back to Richmond” and “More Than Friends.”

Dacus previously premiered “More Than Friends” during her recent London stop on the Forever Is a Feeling tour. “I’ve known you for so long/You know I admit it when I’m wrong,” she sings. “So I’ll admit I never thought we’d be a thing/I’ve never been happier to be wrong about anything.”

“Bus Back to Richmond” has lived for much longer. In 2021, Dacus performed the record on her Home Video tour, but asked that the audience not film or upload it. It has made sporadic appearances throughout her live shows since. “I held your hand on the bus back to Richmond/From New York on New Year’s Day/Last night, we forgot the champagne/So you drank a 40 and bought me a nasty rosé,” she sings on the opening verse. “We watched the ball drop from Brooklyn/The East River shining a sloppy display/Watercolor fireworks.”

The new releases aren’t quite a deluxe edition of the record, but Dacus did update the artwork for Forever Is a Feeling to reflect the original concept she had in mind. “Thank you to @whoisdamaster for helping me see my original idea for the cover of Forever Is A Feeling,” she wrote on Instagram.

In the new image, the Will St. John painting that appeared on the initial cover is positioned on the floor in a storage room full of golden frames. “There wasn’t time to make this image at first, but it never left my mind,” wrote Dacus. “From here on, I’m changing the album art to this because… I want to and I can!”
