Lucy Dacus Delivers Poignant Cover of Daniel Caesar’s ‘Who Knows’

The singer-songwriter performed her rendition for Australian radio network Triple J’s series Like a Version

Lucy Dacus performed a poignant rendition of Daniel Caesar’s “Who Knows,” saying the track’s “simple” yet “poetic” lyrics make it a “perfect song.”

The singer-songwriter, and member of boygenius, stopped by Australian radio network Triple J to deliver the song for its popular Like a Version series. Dacus said she chose to cover Caesar’s song — which appears on his October 2025 album Son of Spergy — because it touches on the idea of life and its joys being impermanent, and the human desire of still wanting to honor those beautiful moments.

“It’s my favorite type of love song because it’s uncertain,” Dacus said in a behind-the-scenes video for Like a Version. “It feels thematically connected to what I wanted to do on [Dacus’ 2025 album] Forever Is a Feeling.”

Accompanying Dacus on the cover were string players and her drummer Ricardo, who tapped paintbrushes on a paper bar menu instead of a drumkit, and had two shakers in their sock.

“I hope [Caesar] likes it,” Dacus added. “It’d be really awkward if he didn’t. If he doesn’t like it, he shouldn’t tell me that.”

Dacus stopped by Triple J to film a segment for their popular video series while touring the country as part of the Laneway Festival circuit. Dacus will begin touring in North America in May, kicking off with shows in Washington state, Oregon, California, and Utah.
