Lorde Shares Snippet of New Song Ahead of L4: ‘Since I Was 17, I Gave You Everything’

Lorde seems to finally be answering her fans’ prayers for new music, with the pop star randomly dropping a snippet of an unreleased song on TikTok Wednesday (April 9) ahead of her highly anticipated fourth studio album.

In the seconds-long clip, Lorde — wearing a white button-down and jeans — films herself walking through Washington Square Park in New York City as she listens to the track. “Since I was 17, I gave you everything/ Now we wake from a dream, well baby, what was that?/ What was that?” she sings over a mid-tempo dance beat and ethereal synth glimmers.

The video marks the New Zealand superstar’s first post on the platform. On her Instagram — which she wiped free of any other content while changing her profile picture to a photo of her water bottle — Lorde shared a screenshot of a comment on the TikTok video from a bewildered fan asking, “WAIT WHAT?????”

Lorde’s official website has also gone blank.

Fans have been desperate for her to share new music for years, with the two-time Grammy winner last releasing an album in 2021. Featuring singles “Solar Power” and “Mood Ring,” Solar Power reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and followed 2013’s Pure Heroine and 2017’s Melodrama.

Leading up to the new teaser, the “Royals” singer has kept listeners on the edge of their seats by hinting multiple times over the past several months that she’s been hard at work in the studio. In July, she shared the tiniest snippet of an unreleased song — bopping her head to a techno-inspired beat in a two-second video — and wrote on Instagram, “Will be back in touch.”

In August, producer Jim-E Stack confirmed that he and Lorde were working together by sharing a photo of the singer-songwriter absorbed in something on her laptop.
