Lorde announces new single ‘Hammer’, her “ode to city life & horniness”

Lorde has announced her brand new single ‘Hammer’, her final single before the release of ‘Virgin’.

The Kiwi popstar will drop her highly-anticipated new album on June 27, marking her first new album since 2021’s ‘Solar Power‘.

So far, Lorde has released the nostalgic lead single ‘What Was That’, along with the intimate ‘Man Of The Year’.

Now, Lorde has shared the news of her final single for ‘Virgin’ entitled ‘Hammer’. The song is set to be the opening track for the album, with the singer calling it “an ode to city life and horniness” on social media.

She also shared a snippet of the music video, which she said was filmed on location in Hampstead Heath. The video sees Lorde with pigtail braids sitting amongst pigeons in the park, singing the lyrics: “There’s a heat in the pavement My mercury’s raising”.

Lorde recently previewed more songs from ‘Virgin’ by surprising fans in London at a ‘Virgin’ listening party.

Fans who were selected were then invited to a car park, where the singer appeared on the hood of a car to play “five or six songs” (per a fan on Reddit who attended) from the upcoming album.

One of the tracks Lorde debuted was ‘Clear Blue’, a song she previously revealed was about “unprotected sex and taking a pregnancy test”. Per the fan, the track is “just a chopped, electronic-sounding, layered-vocals-only performance,” that “felt like an interlude, but a good one.”

They also added that the album includes a “drum and bass” song about London.

Lorde will soon embark on her UK, European and North American ‘Ultrasound’ tour later this year. She recently promised fans that the forthcoming gigs “could be our masterpiece”, with special guests on the tour including The Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, Chanel Beads, Empress Of and Oklou, as well as Blood Orange and co-producer Jim-E Stack.
