Lizzo Funks It Up in Preview of New Song: ‘I’m Bouta Throw My Phone Away’

Lizzo leans into a classic kiss-off on the just-released second preview of her upcoming Love In Real Life album. In a snippet released on Instagram on Thursday (March 6), the singer rocks a bedazzled red bodysuit with a series of cut-outs down the front as she shimmies and shakes her way through a 20-seconds of the funk-forward tune.

Over a thumping bass pluck, Lizzo looks directly into the camera, singing, “I’m bouta throw my phone away/ Can’t let my girls know [unintelligible] been f–kin’ with my day/ He act like he can’t be replaced, okay?/ Well, he ‘gon hate to see me leave/ But love to watch me walk away,” she teases as she slides backwards while running her hands up and down her body.

At press time the title of the song had not officially been announced, but the caption to the video reads: “IM BOUTA THROW MY PHONE AWAY.”

Lizzo was back in our ears last week with the title track from her upcoming fifth studio album, which is due out this summer. She proved she was ready to get back to business in the high-energy video for the uptempo rock-edged pop tune “Love in Real Life,” which was accompanied by a music video featuring Michael Jackson-like group dance routines and night club zombies.

Her first single in two years — the follow-up to her “Pink” contribution to the Barbie soundtrack — will be celebrate at a series of three intimate shows this month at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theater on March 12, New York’s Irving Plaza on March 16 and Minneapolis’ First Ave. on March 18.
