Listen to The Lottery Winners’ pensive new single ‘Ragdoll’ featuring Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger

The Lottery Winners have shared their powerful new single ‘Ragdoll’ featuring Nickelback‘s Chad Kroeger. Check it out below.

It’s the latest taste of their upcoming sixth studio record ‘KOKO‘, which also sees them collaborate with Frank Turner, Shed Seven and Reverend & The Makers. ‘KOKO’s is due for release this Friday (March 21) after being pushed back a month due to “manufacturing challenges”.

‘Ragdoll’ was written by The Lottery Winners’ frontman Thom Rylance, bassist Katie Lloyd – who takes lead vocals on the track – and Kroeger in a dressing room, during the final night of Nickelback’s UK and EU arena tour last year, which the Manchester band served as support on.

Built around an emotional acoustic guitar, the song explores a toxic yet irresistible romance. Lloyd explains that it’s about “one of those relationships I think we’ve all unfortunately had that isn’t good for you, but you find it difficult to break away from. Luckily, I did, and this song is about that.”

On working with the ’00s rock icon, she added: “It’s so surreal to have gone from growing up listening to Nickelback, to getting to play a full arena tour with them last year, and now I’m singing a duet with Chad Kroeger!”

Meanwhile, Kroeger said of the collaboration: “After I heard the demo, the melody was welded in my head for a few days straight. I knew we could do something fun together and I’m glad we did!”

A music video for the track is set to arrive at 7pm GMT tonight (March 19), which Lloyd called the band’s “most ambitious yet”. She added: “We had to build a full doll house stage set design, and Chad being in Canada meant we had to be creative with incorporating him into the video too! I’m really proud of what we achieved with it.”

Speaking to NME in December, frontman Thom Rylance explained how the collaboration came about. “We supported [Nickelback] on tour. It was cool to hate Nickelback for so long, from when they were the first internet meme band. But they still sell out arenas all over the world, and their story inspires me, as they’re from humble beginnings too.”

‘KOKO’ follows their first UK Number One album, 2023’s ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy’, and is named after the motto ‘Keep on keeping on‘. Rylance told us that this hopeful message was “about the self-reflection and self-forgiveness [he] went through writing these songs”.
