Listen to The Itch’s euphoric love letter to British nightlife, ‘Space In The Cab’

The Itch have shared their new single ‘Space In The Cab’, a euphoric love letter to British nightlife – check it out below.

The Luton dance-punk duo – made up of Simon Tyrie and Georgia Hardy – have released a handful of singles so far, including ‘Ursula’, a tribute to the sci-fi writer Ursula K. Le Guin, and the double-A side ‘ The Influencer’ / ‘Co-Conspirator’.

Now, they are back with ‘Space In The Cab’, an addictive, hedonistic earworm that both celebrates and eulogises the UK’s dwindling nightlife. “And the clubs are all empty / They’re all out of pocket / I’m all out of options / I’m having a crisis”, goes the vocoder-assisted lead vocal.

Earlier this week (November 13), The Itch headlined The Great Escape’s First Fifty event at Sebright Arms in London, while they are preparing to host a Christmas party at the Shacklewell Arms on December 12. That show will feature live performances from Pearl2 and lifeloose and you can find tickets here.

NME spoke to The Itch earlier this year, where they expanded on the song’s theme about the decline of nightclub culture. “So many venues have shut down,” Tyrie said. “I remember reading about Foals doing all these house parties, and none of that happens now. We have so many conversations about playing a really cool night where you can only fit 50 people in and you bring your own beer, but where the fuck is that?”

They also spoke about some of their inspirations, with Tyrie saying: “Some of my favourite lyricists, Jarvis Cocker and even Morrissey, their lyrics hit so much harder when there’s this element of dark humour to them. When things are too earnest, I don’t take them as seriously because people aren’t like that.”
