Listen to Tame Impala’s blissed-out cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Hummer’ from new tribute album ‘Sending Hearts To All My Dearies’

“Excited to have a great group of contemporary artists covering SP tracks,” the Pumpkins wrote on social media. “Go stream Tame Impala’s version of ‘Hummer’ now.”

An official description reads: “More than a tribute album, ‘Sending Hearts To All My Dearies’ serves as a conversation between generations of artists, with musicians shaped by The Smashing Pumpkins’ fearless songwriting, experimentation, and emotional honesty paying homage through reinterpretation and new perspective.”

“More than three decades after redefining alternative rock, the band’s music continues to inspire artists and audiences alike, making this collection both a celebration of their enduring legacy and a reminder that truly great songs never stop evolving,” it adds.

Corgan once called ‘Siamese Dream’ his “middle finger to the indie world”. He explained: “As dark a record as ‘Siamese Dream’ is, there’s a lot of fun in it, it’s almost like we’re kind of laughing at how stupid the whole thing is. It’s like, here’s my pop song about suicide and here’s my epic song about child abuse…”

Tame Impala’s fifth full-length album, ‘Deadbeat’, was released last autumn. Parker later won a Grammy for the single ‘End Of Summer’ in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording category.

He toured in the US to showcase his latest LP, ahead of bringing the ‘Deadbeat’ tour to the UK and Europe earlier this year.

During a gig in Paris in May, Tame Impala performed a live version of ‘Neverender’ with Justice. The French electronic duo first appeared at the concert as the surprise opening act. Then, at London’s O2, Parker invited Dua Lipa to the stage to sing ‘Houdini’ – taken from Lipa’s 2024 album ‘Radical Optimism’, which Parker produced.

In other news, Billy Corgan has said Smashing Pumpkins are keen to bring their ‘A Night Of Mellon Collie And Infinite Sadness’ live show to the Las Vegas Sphere. “It’s a no-doubter for us,” he explained. “We just haven’t been asked yet.”

Meanwhile, the group will co-headline a July 4 concert hosted by bipartisan initiative America250 in Los Angeles, alongside Chris Stapleton.
