The guitarist and singer, who co-founded the California band with Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson in 1961, released his new EP ‘Islands In The Sun’ on Friday (May 30), his first release since his first full-length solo album ‘A Postcard From California’, which came out in 2010.
It includes ‘My Plane Leaves Tomorrow (Au Revoir)’, a track that dates back to the recording sessions for ‘A Postcard From California’ and sees Jardine duetting with Young. The latter’s former bandmates Stephen Stills and the late David Crosby were also involved in the sessions.
Opening with an excerpt from a BBC news report, the sweetly melodic track bears many of the hallmarks of Jardine’s work with The Beach Boys, with tightly arranged harmony vocals and gentle instrumental backing. Listen here:
The track also features a trumpet part from Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who also played bass on ‘A Postcard From California’.
Jardine is also set to take Brian Wilson’s solo band out on tour to promote the new release this summer. Dubbing the group the Pet Sounds Band, they will play a range of shows across the US in July, August and September and you can find any remaining tickets here.

The Beach Boys, meanwhile, will play one outdoor UK show this summer, at Englefield House in Berkshire on July 20. It is their sole UK appearance for 2025 and comes as part of their ‘The Sounds Of The Summer’ tour. David Essex and Lulu are also on the bill, and you can find any remaining tickets here.
The current iteration of The Beach Boys does not feature Brian Wilson, who retired from touring in 2022 and has since been placed under a court conservatorship due to a “major neurocognitive disorder”.
As for Neil Young, he is set to headline Glastonbury this summer and has been playing a number of deep cuts at recent live shows, including the first performance of ‘My Boy’ in over four decades.
