Listen to Mae Muller’s “vulnerable” and anthemic new single ‘Breakaway’

Mae Muller has shared an intuitive new track called ‘Breakaway’. Check it out below.

Shared today (March 21), the track comes as the first taste of a “bold new era” the singer is set to embark on, and marks her first new material after taking a 15-month hiatus.

With the new track, Muller captures a self-assured, anthemic atmosphere, and pairs it with a new sense of vulnerability and emotionally-exposed songwriting. It explores themes of loss, along with harnessing an optimistic outlook when it comes to leaving the past behind.

“I wrote ‘Breakaway’ in a time when I felt quite lost as an artist, I was putting so much pressure on myself with my newfound independence, that after a while I just decided to get in the studio and pour everything out and whatever I ended up with, at least it would be a weight off my chest,” she explained.

“That was June last year and has ended up being one of my favourite songs that I’ve ever written and the start to this new era. It’s about navigating vulnerability, but also finding my power within it, whilst not losing the joy along the way.”

Tune in below.

Written by Muller and produced by Herik Michelsen, the comeback single sees the singer tap into new sides of her artistry – blending nods to underground electronica and pop to develop a sound not yet explored.

A new description reads: “Having spent the last year navigating life as a newly independent artist, this new music comes from a period of reflection and growth for Mae. From rejection and heartache to her signature bad bitch energy, it’s a sound that is distinctly Mae Muller and takes listeners on a journey through the highs and lows of the last few years.

“Complete with moments of playful frivolity, unapologetic honesty, and sharp-witted sass, Mae’s emboldened vision is all captured in this exciting new era.”

The new material comes after the singer represented the UK at Eurovision back in 2023 with her track ‘I Wrote A Song’.
