LPO interpreted the original song that soundtracks the Oscar-contending best live-action short black and white film About Mannequin, shared exclusively via Billboard. The 40-minute project stars one of Kazakhstan’s most beloved actresses, Ayanat Ysmagambetova, and follows the story of a cursed wedding dress in a mysterious bridal shop and the woman who must break free from its spell.
The Aruszhan Dossymkozha-directed film was qualified for Oscar consideration in the short film category.
“The London Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to contribute to this project that captures the magic of the silent era; where music and brilliant acting combine to tell extraordinary stories,” said David Burke, the LPO’s chief executive. “The film’s original song, recorded by our players, captures the essence of this timely narrative of a brave woman’s conquest over oppression.”
Ysmagambetova added, “Making About Mannequin has been the dream of a lifetime. I am proud to have made a film about a brave woman triumphing over oppression under the most challenging circumstances.”
