Listen to Calvin Harris’ new mix of 2016 Rihanna collaboration ‘This Is What You Came For’

Calvin Harris has shared a new remix of his 2016 Rihanna collaboration ‘This Is What You Came For’ – check it out below.

The new version is an exclusive for Amazon Music and was released on Friday (November 15), a tightened, streamlined version of the chart hit with a faster BPM and extra effects on Rihanna’s vocal take.

Dubbed the ‘Calvin Harris VIP Mix – Amazon Music Original’, it is a new lease of life for the song that originally reached Number Two on the UK Singles Chart and Number Three in the US. The original track was co-written by Taylor Swift, under the pseudonym Nils Sjöberg, during the period that she was dating Harris.

‘This Is What You Came For’ was the third collaboration between Harris and Rihanna, after the colossal hit ‘We Found Love’ and 2012’s ‘Where Have You Been’.

Listen to the new mix here:

This is Harris’ first significant release since July’s Ellie Goulding collab ‘Free’, a rousing summer anthem with stabs of house piano and a euphoric chorus.

The Scottish DJ also picked up the Best Electronic prize at last weekend’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, defeating the likes of David Guetta, Disclosure and Fred Again…

Rihanna, meanwhile, recently addressed her future in music while launching her latest Fenty beauty products.

“Music was the thing that got the attention, but God had other plans for me,” she said. “And I was able to create in ways that were very sincere and genuine, or organic and authentic to the things that I love.”

The appearance added fuel to the ongoing fan discourse on whether Rihanna – whose last album was 2016’s ‘Anti’ – is indeed done with music. For the past few years, Rihanna has gone full businesswoman mode with Fenty Beauty, and, save for a Super Bowl performance last year, has mainly shied away from making and performing music.

The wait for a new album has been simmering, and Rihanna knows it. In July, she sent a DM to GloRilla asking about new music: “I know dis wild hypocritical, but when the album drop?”.

In April, the star said she had material she felt she “could make hits out of”. Additionally, she told Extra that she felt the next album would represent “the evolution” of her sound.
