Lewis Capaldi Showcases Uplifting Single ‘Survive’ on ‘Fallon’

Lewis Capaldi appeared on The Tonight Show to perform his new single, “Survive,” and to discuss his return to music with host Jimmy Fallon.

The musician shared an emotional rendition of “Survive,” which he initially debuted at Glastonbury in June. He was joined by a live band for the triumphant acoustic number, Capaldi’s first new song in nearly two years. The song addresses Capaldi’s mental health struggles in the wake of his battle with Tourette’s syndrome.

Capaldi sat down with Fallon to discuss the single and his surprise set on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage. The singer had last performed at the festival in 2023, where he was seen battling Tourette’s throughout his set. Shortly after, he announced all upcoming tour dates would be cancelled to focus on his mental and physical well-being. He acknowledged that returning to Glastonbury was “terrifying.”

“In the lead-up to it I was like, ‘This is horrific. I made a terrible decision,’” Capaldi told Fallon. “And then I went out and then we did it and it was really beautiful and lovely, and it went exactly as how I hoped. And it was probably the best day of my life.”

He added, joking, “Until, I assume, when I have a child. I’ll be like, ‘Well, maybe Glastonbury was still better.’”

Capaldi also discussed his partnership with online therapy service BetterHelp and how therapy has helped him in his own mental health journey. He recalled having a “mental breakdown” on stage in 2023 and explained what it has taken to get him to a more stable place. Now, Capaldi is ready to perform again regularly. “We’ve just announced a U.K. arena tour and an Australia arena tour,” he noted. “You can try and get tickets, but they’re sold out baby!”

Earlier this month, Capaldi confirmed he is in the process of readying a new EP. “I don’t know about an album, but I’m doing an EP at some point this year, and then album maybe will follow next year,” the musician said on Good Morning America. He said his next single will arrive “later this summer, and then another song after that, and another song after that, until the day I die.”
