Lewis Capaldi has shared details of a “panic attack” in Chicago that was “even worse” than his onstage tic attack at Glastonbury 2023.
The Scottish singer recently appeared on the This Past Weekend podcast, where he told host Theo Von about a panic attack prior to Glastonbury 2023 backstage in Chicago.
“I couldn’t come back on stage and finish the song,” Capaldi recalled. “I was like, backstage, convulsing and having this crazy panic attack, mental episode. It was really, really bad. It was the first time people at my shows had seen it.”
He also expanded on his set at Glastonbury 2023, which saw Capaldi cut his set short as his Tourette’s syndrome caused a tic attack interfering with his voice. He told Von: “When it happened and when it was happening, it was, like, the lowest moment of my life, and it was horrible.
“I had this moment where I was on stage like two, three songs in,” he added. “I was like, ‘This is the last time I’m going to play a gig for a long time. I need to try and get through the rest of the show, but when I come off, I’m done.’”
After an ensuing hiatus, Capaldi returned to Glastonbury this year playing a secret show, calling it a “comeback moment”. “It was lovely,” he added. “It was a really special moment.”
Capaldi recently released a powerful new single ‘Survive’, the first new material from the singer since the extended edition of his 2023 album, ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’.
He also announced he had teamed up with BetterHelp to provide 734,000 hours of free online therapy, saying: “Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again”.
He’s due to play a UK tour in September this year, where he’ll play a number of huge venues like London’s O2 and Manchester’s Co-Op Live, closing out with a final show at Dublin’s 3 Arena. See all dates below and get your tickets here:
