Laufey, Tegan And Sara to guest star in Disney+ exclusive Simpsons specials

Laufey and Tegan and Sara will appear as guest stars in one of three new episodes of The Simpsons, made exclusively for Disney+.

It was announced Thursday (May 28, per Variety) that three new stories will be coming to the streaming service this summer, with the episode titles Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition (released June 17), Simpsley (July 3), and Yellow Mirror (August 26).

Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition will feature guest stars actor Betty Gilpin, Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey, and pop duo Tegan and Sara. The official synopsis reads: “Homer and Marge’s fun couples’ date night goes off the rails when Marge learns Homer left the kids unsupervised with only the doorbell camera as a babysitter. Frustrated with her imperfect husband, a tipsy Marge stirs up a trilogy of fantasies of a different Homer.”

Simpsley will be a film noir inspired story featuring Marge as a con artist, while Yellow Mirror is a parody of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror. The latter episode’s synopsis is as follows: “A defective lamp reveals a heartbreaking truth about what Homer believes is reality, and an AI-powered tablet befriends and controls Maggie. The Simpsons struggle to find the light through two dark tales of the curious and bizarre.”

Having recently passed its 800th episode, Disney+ exclusives are just one of the ways that The Simpsons has evolved over the years. The show’s producer has recently talked about why the animated hit has phased out its classic couch gags, while last year the show announced it would make fewer episodes moving forward. A second Simpsons movie is also scheduled for 2027.

The series has also gained a reputation for “predicting” future events, such as the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney, and the presidency of Donald Trump. The writer of the latter joke, Dan Greaney, recently announced that he will be running for president himself in 2028.
