Lana Del Rey joins local band on stage after overhearing them covering ‘West Coast’

Lana Del Rey has joined a local band on stage after she overheard them covering her song ‘West Coast’ – watch footage below.

The Fastest Kids In School were playing a small outdoors show in Santa Barbara, California on Saturday (September 27) and were playing a version of the 2014 song, originally released on Del Rey’s third album ‘Ultraviolence’.

Del Rey happened to be walking nearby during the performance and, hearing her song, she approached the band and asked if they would mind if she joined them as a guest vocalist.

The band captured footage of the unlikely collaboration and have posted it on their Instagram account, writing: “Super honored @honeymoon joined us on stage at Institution today! Truly a show we’ll never forget!”

The Fastest Kids In School’s Dan Grimes also posted to say he “will never forget” the moment”, explaining: “She just happened to be walking by while we were playing her song and motioned to see if we wouldn’t mind if she came on stage. Of course we obliged and that is when my head exploded. She was just ‘out getting some ice cream’ she said.”

Del Rey is preparing to release the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’. The new record had been due to be named ‘Lasso’, with an initial release date of May 2025, but it was pushed back to September when it was renamed ‘The Right Person Will Stay’. Last month, however, Del Rey said she had decided it would now be titled ‘Stove’ and would be released at the end of January 2026.

When she first announced the album, it was widely reported that she would lean into a country direction, however that was then thrown into question when she suggested that she was going to tone that down for a “more Southern gothic” approach.

Details about ‘Stove’ still remain vague, although the singer spoke to NME last year about the album, and suggested that the lyrics might be lighter than on her previous albums.

“I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’ or ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, and just more melodic,” she told us. “Maybe more American Songbook style?”

She also added that there would be a “playful” feel to it than she originally planned, saying: “If you hang in long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no vindication, no nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here. It’s easy-going in that way.”

This week, Del Rey also responded to a claim from a fan that she had undergone plastic surgery.
