Lady Gaga Postpones Miami Concert, Citing Vocal Strain: An ‘Agonizing Decision’

The star said that although it was a difficult decision, she didn’t want to “risk long term or permanent damage” to her vocal cords

Lady Gaga has postponed her show in Miami tonight, citing an “extremely strained” voice and recommendations from both her doctor and vocal coach to rest.

The star called off the show just before it was set to kick off in Kaseya Center as thousands gathered to see Gaga perform. “I am really so so sorry but I need to postpone tonight’s show in Miami,” wrote Gaga in her statement shared to Instagram. “During rehearsal last night and my vocal warmup tonight my voice was extremely strained and both my Dr and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses.” The singer said that while she wants to” be hardcore and just push through this for you,” she doesn’t “want to risk long term or permanent damage on my vocal cords.”

She reminded fans that she sings live every night and that there is “a significant risk based on all our combined experience with a show like ours.” Gaga said that while it was “a hard and agonizing decision,” she would be “more afraid of the long term implications on my voice.”

Gaga continued, “I hope you can forgive me and accept my sincerest apologies for any disappointment, let down, inconvenience I am so so sorry I tried so hard to avoid this I take serious care of myself to be able to put on this highly demanding show. I love my fans so much, respect you and hope you can accept my sincere regretful apology.” The musician said that her team is “trying to reschedule the show as quickly as possible.”

The Grammy winner’s show tonight was slated to be the last of three in Miami for her Mayhem Ball tour. It’s currently unclear if additional appearances will be affected. Gaga is still scheduled to take the stage on Saturday and Sunday in New York City at Madison Square Garden, and is also scheduled to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she leads all contenders with 12 nominations.
