Lady Gaga, JISOO and more reveal their favourite Pokémon in 30th anniversary ad

Pokémon released a new 30th anniversary trailer during last night’s (Sunday February 8) Super Bowl 60, which sees megastars such as Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK’s JISOO sharing their favourite ‘mon.

The 60-second clip launched Pokémon’s ‘What’s Your Favourite’ anniversary campaign and was designed to “illustrate the brand’s mission to bring people together through a shared love of Pokémon and honour its growing audience of diverse, global and multigenerational fans across three decades.”

The video sees Lady Gaga championing Jigglypuff, their “12 octave vocal range” and how they “always find a way to make things funny” before singing a snippet of their ‘Lullaby’. “She uses her voice to protect herself,” added Gaga, before BLACKPINK’s JISOO revealed their favourite is Eevee.

Elsewhere, Trevor Noah picked Psyduck, F1 driver Charles Leclerc named Arcanine as his favourite, Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko picked Gengar, Spanish soccer star Lamine Yamal chose Zygarde and actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan named Luxray as their fav.

“The ‘What’s Your Favorite?’ campaign embodies Pokémon’s overarching mission of bringing people together through a shared love of Pokémon.

Since the franchise debuted 30 years ago, trainers have often asked each other, ‘What’s Your Favorite?’ — it’s a question that sparks passionate discussion and reminds fans that no matter who they are, there is a Pokémon for them,” said Kenji Okubo, president at The Pokémon Company International, in a press release.

“As we gear up for a year packed full of fan-focused celebrations, we thank Trainers around the world for being part of our diverse, global and multigenerational community, and we can’t wait to surprise and delight them with more offerings and experiences in the coming months.”

Over the next 12 months, Pokémon fans will be able to take part in “fan-focused experiences that encourage the larger community to come together in real life,” under the ‘Day Out’ and ‘Night Out’ banners. “Day Out events will feature family-friendly activities and programming, and Night Out events will have fun surprises in store for longtime fans who grew up with Pokémon,” with more details set to be announced soon.

It’s been reported that the recent Pokemon Legends: Z-A cost developers Game Freak $13million to make, while a minute-long Super Bowl commercial will have reportedly cost $14million to air.

Meanwhile Lady Gaga also popped up during Bad Bunny’s celebrated Super Bowl halftime show to perform a Latin version of her Bruno Mars collaboration ‘Die With A Smile’.

In other news, The 1975 are in the studio but Matty Healy has taken to Reddit to ask fans if they want to play Arc Raiders with him.
