Lady Gaga confirms ‘Telephone’ sequel is still happening

Lady Gaga has confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to her hit 2009 song ‘Telephone’ will happen – find out what the popstar had to say below.

In 2009, Gaga teamed up with Beyoncé for the pop smash hit ‘Telephone’, which featured on ‘The Fame Monster’, an expanded version of her album ‘The Fame’. The song’s accompanying music video saw both musicians star in a mini-narrative film that ended with the cryptic words “to be continued…”

16 years later, a follow-up to the mega collaboration has yet to be released, though it’s not entirely out the question for Gaga. Lady Gaga – who is currently gearing up to release her seventh studio album ‘Mayhem’ next month – recently took part in a lie detector test for Vanity, where she spoke about ‘Telephone’ and its proposed sequel.

Among the first questions asked by the Variety team for the lie detector test was if ‘Telephone’ “will ever be continued”. Lady Gaga cautiously answered “yes”, but clarified that she doesn’t know when it’ll happen.

As for Beyoncé’s involvement in the follow-up, Lady Gaga simply said “maybe”. When asked if the sequel’s delay is due to scheduling conflicts with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga delivered an emphatic “no”.

Lady Gaga is due to release her highly anticipated ‘Mayhem’ on March 7, following on from 2020’s ‘Chromatica’ and her ‘Harlequin’ companion record (2024). You can pre-order/pre-save your copy of the album here.

As for the build to ‘Mayhem’, Gaga has released three singles so far: ‘Die With A Smile’ with Bruno Mars, ‘Disease’ and ‘Abracadabra’. Yesterday, she revealed the album’s full collection of songs, which will include a feature from DJ and producer Gesaffelstein – check out the album’s full tracklist here.

To celebrate the release of the upcoming album, Gaga will pull double duty on Saturday Night Live (SNL) they day after the record’s launch, where she will host the long-runnign sketch show and perform as a musical guest.
