Lady Gaga announces new album ‘Mayhem’

Lady Gaga has announced her highly anticipated seventh studio album ‘Mayhem’.

Announced today (January 27), ‘Mayhem’ is set for release on March 7 and is available for pre-order here. The announcement comes after billboards with the album’s title and release date began appearing in major cities such as NYC and Las Vegas.

Comprised of 14 tracks executively produced by Gaga, Michael Polansky and Andrew Watt and featuring producers such as Cirkut and Gesaffelstein, ‘Mayhem’ has been promised to reinvent Gaga’s “early sound with a kaleidoscopic approach that draws from her expansive musical library while embracing a fresh and fearless artistic perspective,” (as per a press release).

“The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved,” Gaga shared in a press release. She also described the process of creating the album as “reassembling a shattered mirror: even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”

Gaga is set to debut the LP’s third single and accompanying music video on February 2 during a commercial break at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Her last album, aside from the Joker 2 soundtrack and the ‘Harlequin’ companion album, was 2021’s ‘Love For Sale’ with the late crooner Tony Bennett, a close friend of the singer.

her previous solo LP, was 2020’s ‘Chromatica’. In a four-star review of the album, NME shared: “On ‘Chromatica’ Gaga has fully embraced creating a pure pop album. The record is littered with catchy choruses and glossy production – but it goes deeper than that.

“‘Chromatica’ is ‘about healing and it’s about bravery’, she explained before the album came out, adding: ‘sound is what healed me in my life period, and it healed me again making this record’. You can certainly hear that. From the exhilarating melodies to the positive, hope-filled lyrics, ‘Chromatica’ is a celebration – and a well-deserved one at that.”

Gaga has previously teased the project with the release of its dramatic lead single ‘Disease’. Little information has been shared about the album since, except for Gaga confirming that ‘Die With A Smile’ will be “a huge part of my album”.

The singer and actress also recently opened up about the album’s “true chaos”.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gaga went on to say that she was “just trying to push as much sound as possible” with the album. She explained that she wanted the LP to capture the feeling of struggling “to see the light” before something more positive happens.

“There’s other moments where it’s all about love, and it’s super dreamy,” she added. “That, to me, is true chaos.

“There are times when it’s hard to see the light, but I think sometimes what makes inner chaos harder is when you sometimes get a glimpse of the sun, because you’re like, ‘Man, I wish the sun would shine all the time’, and then it reminds you of what you’re missing.”

She concluded: “So the album has all of that. It’s like a full experience.” Gaga also previously described the forthcoming ‘LG7’ as “chaotic”, “genre-bending” and “very fun”.

“When I write and produce and sing songs, I am always drawing upon my knowledge of the history of music, and so many artists and producers that came before me,” she said. “In that way, this album is a celebration of a lot of the music that made me who I am, because when I returned to a darker pop style of pop, all my early experiences with music came out.”

In other news, Gaga was confirmed as a headliner for Coachella 2025, alongside Post Malone and Green Day. She recently became the third act ever to have multiple Number Ones in three different decades too.

Gaga will also be one of the performers at the LA Wildfires benefit concert, alongside the likes of Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, Green Day and more.
