The singer-songwriter/producer releases the third single from The Cosmic Opera: Act I, dropping in January
Labrinth has released a new single, “IMPLOSION,” the third offering from his upcoming The Cosmic Opera: Act I project.
The song begins with sparse, emphatic horn shrills that dip in pitch and stretch into the full composition, which Labrinth speckles with “Go, I’ma go” ad-libs before rhyming, “I’m running like a bitch from my zeitgeists/I’m tryna get a grip on my insides.” The production’s haunting tone matches the chorus, where he rhymes, “And they mark us out of 10, in a game we’ll never win/Chasing all this fame, ‘til we meet our bitter end.”
“This record is an attempt specifically from an artist perspective to explore mental illness while navigating a career in the entertainment industry,” the Euphoria soundscapist said in a statement about the track. “The paranoia, the confirmation of threats, the desperate and unfulfilling pursuit of success.”

“IMPLOSION” follows “Orchestra” and “S.W.M.F.”, two singles from his album, which drops on Jan. 30 via Columbia Records. In September, he released his Prelude EP. In an Instagram post promoting the project, he noted, “I’ve had a fucking crazy couple of years figuring shit out, running into moments that have really helped me grow as a creative and as a person. I’m bursting at the seams to continue our voyage. I hope this offering is the beginning…. the first of many things I have to share with you.”
On Thursday, Labrinth will perform at the Royal Albert Hall for the 10 Years of Choose Love Anniversary Gala alongside acts such as Clara Amfo, Dawn O’Porter, Deborah Francis-White, Dermot O’Leary, Jon Hopkins, Pearl Mackie, Sebastian Croft, and Eaz Da Bully.
