Kneecap announce livestream gig and special NYC cinema showing after US tour cancelled

Kneecap have announced a livestreamed performance for fans in the wake of their cancelled US tour.

The Irish trio cancelled their sold-out US headline tour on August 25, after member Mo Chara’s terrorism case was adjourned until September 26 at his second court hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on August 20.

At the time, the band wrote: “To all our US-based fans, we have some bad news. Due to the close proximity of our next court hearing in London on September 26 – as the British government continues its witch-hunt – with the start of the US tour, we will have to cancel all 15 US tour dates in October.”

They added: “We will be sharing something very special for US fans next week so that we can still link in with you all in October. It’s top secret for now but all will be revealed next week – stay tuned.”

Today (September 4), they revealed that news was a special livestream gig from a “secret location in Ireland” on October 10, at 9pm EST (1am GMT). In addition to an online stream, there will be a screening at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. Access to the online stream can be purchased here, while the Kings Theatre screening will go on general sale tomorrow (September 5) at 12pm EST (4pm GMT) here.

Announcing the show on X (formerly Twitter), Kneecap wrote: “USA Fenians…..and Fenians across the world…. October 10th we will be with you LIVE and direct from Ireland. We were not willing to allow this British witch-hunt stop us playing to tens of thousands of fans across the US so have a very special gig to bring to you from a secret location in Ireland.

“Join us on October 10th for much more than a gig….it is a moment for us all to stand together in defiance and solidarity. We will broadcast across the world at 9pm EST (6pm PST) on October 10th. It will also be shown in Kings Theatre, Brooklyn. It will be fully LIVE and uncensored by those who wish to silence us.

It continued: “Fans in NYC can gather together at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn where the gig will be broadcast in the historic venue on a giant screen on stage. Every ticket holder will also receive a one-off screen printed poster of the event on entry. There will be a special merch stand as well as support TBA.”

Chara (real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) first appeared in court in June, when he was released on unconditional bail.

The terrorism charges were levelled against him in May for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag onstage at a London show last November. The rapper is yet to enter a plea, but has denied any wrongdoing.

His lawyers are seeking to throw out the case, arguing that the terror charge against him was brought outside the time limit. They claim that it was brought a day after the six-month limit for such charges.

However, prosecutors say the charge was brought exactly within the required time limit.

Responding to the terror charge in May, Kneecap denied the offence and vowed to “vehemently defend ourselves”. “This is political policing,” they wrote. “This is a carnival of distraction. We are not the story. Genocide is.”

Speaking outside the court following the August 20 hearing, Chara thanked supporters for coming. “We know this story is more than just about me. It’s more than Kneecap; this is a story about Palestine and us as a distraction from the real story,” he told those gathered.

“We know, unfortunately, this story will end up in the media today, while Israel commits genocide at the same time. So, everybody, continue to speak about Palestine, free Palestine. Thank you all for coming.”

Kneecap have since returned to the stage for a defiant set at Rock en Seine, where pro-Israel protestors attempted to disrupt their performance.

Earlier in August, the trio led chants of “fuck KKR” at Øya Festival 2025 before condemning the “hate-filled” Hungarian Prime Minister in a video broadcast at Sziget in Budapest.
