Kings of Leon Cancel European Tour After Frontman Suffers ‘Pretty Gnarly’ Foot Injury

Caleb Followill, who shattered his heel, revealed that the band planned to premiere new songs at the scrapped shows

Kings of Leon originally planned to kick off the summer performing headlining shows and taking the stage at festivals across Europe. The run, scheduled to begin in Paris on June 10 and extend through July 12 with a performance in Portugal, has since been cancelled after frontman Caleb Followill suffered a foot injury that has rendered them unable to perform at full capacity.

“I’ve broken my foot bad playing with my kids. I’ll spare you the details, but it was pretty gnarly,” Followill shared in a video published to Instagram. “It’s a big bummer because we were so excited and had been preparing for this tour for a long time.” The musician revealed that the band planned to premiere new songs at the since-scrapped shows, adding: “We’ve been in the studio recording a bunch of new music that we were going to debut.”

Followay underwent emergency surgery for the injury that shattered his heel. The recovery time is approximately eight weeks. Kings of Leon are still scheduled to perform in North America in July, when they will headline two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. A slate of festival appearances will follow in August and September.

In the meantime, their focus will shift to the more stationary effort of sharpening the songs they’ve been working on. “Now we have to pivot and do whatever work we can while I have these limitations,” Followill said. “It’s not the message I want to be sending, but hopefully we’ll see you all soon.”

Kings of Leon’s most recent album, Can We Please Have Fun, arrived in May 2024. “We’ve found that the more control we take, over all aspects of the creative process, the more authentic the experience is for us and the fans,” Jared Followill told Rolling Stone about the record at the time. “We love seeing people’s reactions and personal interpretations of the songs. But at the end of the day, nobody knows what these songs mean, and how they should come to life, better than we do. This album is our baby, and we want it presented in the way we envisioned when we wrote and recorded it.”
