Kiefer Sutherland cancels US tour due to “very low ticket sales”

Kiefer Sutherland has been forced to cancel the US leg of his tour due to “very low ticket sales”.

The 24 actor is also a singer-songwriter and is preparing to release his fourth solo album ‘Grey’ on May 29 via Maple Creek Records, and had been due to take the record on tour around the US later this summer.

However, on Friday (May 15), Sutherland posted on his Instagram account to confirm that the US dates will no longer go ahead.

“With great disappointment I am going to have to cancel the US leg of my tour due to very low ticket sales,” he wrote. “I don’t think it’s fair to the people who have bought tickets, or the venues, to play to half empty houses.”

He went on to say that he “looks forward” to touring in the US again “at a more suitable time”, and informed fans with tickets that they will be able to access refunds from their point of purchase.

Sutherland is currently in the UK and Ireland playing dates on his ‘Love Will Bring You Home’ tour, with dates in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff, Exeter, Bournemouth, Oxford and Leeds before the end of the month – find any remaining tickets for those shows here.

There are two North American shows still scheduled to go ahead – at Las Vegas’ Durango Casino & Resort on July 2 and in Saguenay, Quebec on July 11.

Sutherland, who is best known as an actor for his roles in 24Stand By MeA Few Good Men and The Lost Boys, has spoken about his new album, saying the songs “mark a growth for me personally, as I wrote less about observations and more about personal feelings that I have been navigating in my own life”.

In January, he was arrested after allegedly physically assaulting a ride-share driver and making criminal threats in Hollywood.

Sutherland is far from the only artist to have to cancel shows because of weak ticket sales recently. Earlier this month, The Pussycat Dolls cancelled all but one of the North American shows on their tour, Others to cancel strings of dates – although not explicitly due to ticket sales – include Zayn Malik, Neil Young, and Post Malone and Jelly Roll.
