Kevin Hart Revives Chocolate Droppa for April Fool’s Day on Tiny Desk

Hart had the Tiny Desk audience holding in giggles as he embodied his rap alter ego’s confident persona

Kevin Hart had his Chocolate Droppa persona working in overdrive as he visited the NPR Tiny Desk set for a 10-minute comedic rap performance. The performance, set for April Fool’s Day, comes nine years after he featured Nick Jonas, Trey Songz, and T.I. on Droppa’s only mixtape.

Right at the start of his Tiny Desk set, Hart asked the beat to be stopped seconds into his performance before dedicating his set.

“I’m in all-black ’cause this is a funeral. It ain’t mine, it’s theirs. You know who I’m talking to. At the end of the day it’s headshots. If the target fits,” he declared before mimicking the sound of gunshots. “Only time they have someone on Tiny Desk with no fucking track, I’m off the dome. Fuck a DJ!”

Hard shouted out his band, the Band of Brothas, whom he claimed to meet outside of the venue before the performance. “I hear a lot of rappers talking but they not barking. I bark. I’m a big dog and I want to eat the big bone … The big dod takes that bone and I’ma eat off the bone and you gon watch me eat off the bone,” he said.

Droppa continued with “West Coast” backed by a funky beat as he made silly hand moves while rapping the comedic song lyrics. Like with each song, Hart stopped the beat early, declaring the audience wasn’t “ready, man.”

Droppa slowed things down with “Love Song” as he mused about wanting to be missed and how much of a different person. “I’m bigger than you. I’m different, I’m bigger than you,” he raps. “I’m talking about my dick.” Hart seemed to be freestyling lines.

In character, Droppa declared he was “in the studio” and that an album was on the way, before closing his set with “Don’t Fuck With Dem.”
