In a new chat with SZA for Harper’s Bazaar, the two musicians pondered their future, and their end goals, and spoke about a myriad of other topics. In the interview, SZA asked Kendrick Lamar has planned for the future in his critically acclaimed and accolade-filled career.

Lamar replied, revealing that he doesn’t see music as his true calling: “I get fulfilled sharing my experiences with the youth and allowing them to hear these stories and hear these experiences and catch up to them.”

“So to actually answer your question, it’s communication just with people in general,” Lamar continued. “And I feel my work in music is just the start. I don’t think it’s my end goal. I know it’s not my end goal. Music is just a vessel to get me there.”

As for what the future holds for the rapper, Lamar isn’t too sure what he’s meant to do just yet, but he’s on the pursuit of information: “I’m curious, and that’s what keeps me energized… Information. I want it all. I want the resources. I wanna meet people smarter than me. I wanna talk to them. I want them to show me things. I just wanna be fulfilled with whatever this world has to offer. That shit hypes me up. Information. I’m a motherfucking nerd for it.”

Kendrick Lamar’s and SZA’s conversation for Harper’s Bazaar comes shortly after the latter teased that a new Lamar album would be arriving soon. SZA – who is close friends with Lamar, and has collaborated with him several times in the past – last week shared a post on social media that suggests Kendrick is readying a new album.

Devin Malik, an affiliate of Top Dawg Entertainment and collaborator of Kendrick’s shared on social media: “Mood cause new k dot album otwwww”. SZA has since reshared the post, adding her weight to the claims.

Kendrick Lamar’s last album came in the form of 2022’s ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’. Since then, the rapper has released a handful of singles, though all of them have been directed to Drake as part of their feud earlier this year.

Last week, Lamar swept the BET Hip-Hop Awards, clinching eight of his 11 nominations including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Lyricist of the Year and more.
